For this Spring tree sculpture, make a base of green play dough to insert a twig for your tree as shown.
Make some small balls of pink play dough and attach them to the ends of the branches to form blossoms.
Continue adding blossoms until the tree is full of them.
If Spring isn't coming soon enough for you, sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands!
Have fun!!

Dear Valerie,
My twigs!! I was saving those for kindling!
Love,
Mark
@ Mark -- *phew* For a minute there I thought you were going to be upset since we used the last of the green play dough. I know how intently you were working on that claymation booger movie.... Achoooo!!
@ Hayley -- Thank you! It's such a quick and easy craft. Emily was done in just a few minutes! It's our new centerpiece for our kitchen table. :-)
and my! what a cute shirt Emily is wearing ;)
Happy Birthday, Emily!
What a fun spring craft!
Happy Birthday, Emily. What a lovely way to spend your special day - zoo and crafting.
@ Aunt Julia -- She received some compliments on her sparkly shirt while we were at the zoo!
Happy 6th Birthday to Emily!
What a fun project!
I can't believe it - Emily is 6! Happy birthday! This craft is so super cute!
Happy 6th birthday Emily!
Very cute craft! Our yard is covered in sticks right now so we will definitely do this!
Happy birthday to Emily! And, I love the tree. It will be a good one to have bookmarked, for a down day, when the kids want to craft, but I want a nap :) They'll think I'm a genius!
What a beautiful idea. I need some spring flowering trees that don't make my kiddos sneeze! Will put this on the agenda for tomorrow.
Oh, and thanks for your kind words today, I always appreciate it!
Happy Birthday Emily!
What a beautiful project.
Brianna
Happy Birthday Emily!
Great craft idea! We will totally be doing this tomorrow! :)
Thanks for all the wonderful birthday wishes! I am passing them along to the birthday girl! :-)
@ An Almost Unschooling Mom -- It would be perfect for that! I almost called it a "slacker" craft, since it really doesn't take a lot of effort. Emily enjoyed this so much, she made two of them!
That is so simple and so cute. The colors just pop!
Dear Valerie,
If we are out of green play-doh, I will have to resort to .. actual booger models.
So realistic!
/eeeeeew.
Love,
"Diggin'" Mark
p.s. Don't throw away my collection! That mason jar is OFF LIMITS.
@ Mark -- Note to self: Get more green play dough.
Mark, let me just say EWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Hmmm, how I can I use this. I have some sculpey my kids have been dying to try out. Now would the twig catch fire in the oven while cooking the sculpey?
What a great quick and easy craft! Very nice!
@ Ticia -- Sculpey will work, just skip the baking part. You don't have to bake it. Have fun!!
very cute x
happy Spring!
Very fun, easy and cheap. My favorite types of crafts
That's awesome! We're definitely copying this one!
Wow, so easy. THanks!
What a fun idea! I'm trying this next week!
What a fun idea. I think we may do this when our crabapple blossoms.
@ Lisa Anne -- Agreed! Those are the best kinds of crafts!
@ Mom of Two -- Ours should be ready to blossom soon. So exciting!
Truly creative!
I am so adding some sticks to my playdough center! Thanks for sharing this!
This is really clever and so simple. People will be making these all over the country next week! Perfect!
This is such a great idea!! Can't wait to try it with my son. :)
Great idea! Instead of playdough I will make salt dough and colour it!
No need to bake it, but that will also be an option!
Thanks!
Looks just like a nice bit of Spring you guys created :-)
I used this in my Japanese language classroom a few weeks ago as I taught the students about cherry blossoms (sakura) and cherry blossom parties (hanami) in Japan. It was a huge hit! 2nd graders loved it, and for 5th grade, I had them also write a haiku about spring, copy it onto the plate, and make the tree in the middle. They were all so proud and wanted to take their craft home that very minute!
@ Teacher Tom -- Oh, I do hope so! They are so much fun to make! :-)
@ Ladner Sensei -- I'm so happy you did this! How wonderful!!
Thanks for the wonderful idea! We attempted to make them and they turned out just as bright as yours!! Here is the final result: http://nara-saz.blogspot.com/2010/04/little-trees.html
You are so creative!
Love,
