Frugal Gift Idea -- Hand Warmers

These hand warmers make great stocking stuffers, and they are easy to make!  Just heat these in the microwave for a few seconds and they will retain heat for several minutes. To make your own hand warmers, you will need:
  1. felt
  2. embroidery floss
  3. rice
  4. lavendar (optional)
Cut two pieces of felt to the size of about a deck of cards.  Using 3 strands of embroidery floss, blanket stitch three sides together.  Fill with rice and some lavendar (if desired), and blanket stitch the fourth side.  You could make a pair of these, tie them together with some pretty ribbon, and you are done!

Great idea, and just the right size for coat pockets!

Mine ended up too big the first time around, so I went back and hacked some felt off. That gave me the opportunity to embroider my sisters-in-law's names on them, though! (there has to be some incorrect grammar in there somewhere . . .) I also filled them with field corn instead of rice, which hopefully the former farm girls will appreciate. :>) Thanks for sharing, and thanks for contributing SO much to my handmade Christmas!
