$5 Friday -- Crafty Dollar Store Edition (and Giveaway)

I've made felt crayon rolls for Emily before, but when I took the girls to my local moms club meeting, Emily pointed out that we didn't have any paper for her to color on. After the meeting, we had lunch and did a fun shopping trip to the dollar store! When we returned home, I started working on an improved crayon roll, a crayon wallet, if you will. This one has space for a memo pad!

And I used felt in Emily's favorite colors ORANGE and green!

Look how nicely it folds up! I can't wait to take this with us to restaurants, meetings, doctor offices, etc.

HERE'S THE FUN PART, one lucky reader will win one too!! Just leave a comment and be sure to mention your child's two favorite colors and you will be entered for a chance to win a custom made one just for you! Ahem.... I mean, for your child, of course.  ;-) Winner will be chosen by random.org and deadline for entries is Wednesday, June 3rd at 6:30pm EST.

Felt and ribbon cost a little less than a dollar, so we made a fun trip to the dollar store to spend the rest of our $5 on some summer toys.

It's still too wet to use these, but that hasn't stopped Emily from having indoor bug hunts.

Here's a breakdown of how we spent our $5:

Felt for crayon wallet = $0.25 per sheet x 2 = $0.50
Ribbon for crayon wallet = on hand
Butterfly net = $1.00
Frisbee = $1.00
5 pack of glow sticks = $1.00
Bug house = $1.00

Total spent = $4.50!!

Get your entry in for this fun giveaway, and good luck!

what a fun idea! I keep meaning to quilt something similar and never get around to it. Yellow is his favorite color; I'll leave the second color up to you. Thanks :)

Love the crayon roll, wish I could sew, I'd surely try to make one! All my little one does is color, color, color. Her fav colors are Pink and Purple, no surprise for a girl right? LOL
Also, the $1 store is becoming a great place, love the outside toys, we got a few last wk from there!

I don't know how to sew either. :( I have a brand new machine and have never used it. I need to take lessons but never time. :)
Anyway, I think Cali would adore this and her favorite colors are any kinds of pinks and purples and red and yellow. Interesting right?
Thanks for the chance!

Very cute! My girls enjoy playing "store" lately, where they carry sample/fake credit cards in their purses and shop for toys, books and other stuff around the house. They bring their purchases to me and I add up their bills on the calculator/cash register. They pretend to swipe their cards and we write up pretend receipts. They would love a wallet with crayons and paper that they use to write "checks" as well as draw pictures and other notes. The girls like blue and pink.

That is absolutely a wonderful idea. I never thought of something like that which could be very convenient for small trips in the car. My daughter's favorite colors are blue and white.

Also the dollar store has a lot of wonderful summer ideas for summer that are cheap. We have already started hitting up different ideas for summer!!

Love your blog!!

My newphew hates going to places and getting those placemats with lots of drawing and color already on it. He would be a fan of the roll up with memo pad. Great idea! His favorite colors are blue and green.

Great crayon roll! I love the paper idea with the clips! I bet that is a great way to keep all the paper together. I make mine with Mad Libs on one side for my readers. :)

Both my boys love to draw. If we only have time for one activity, that would be their choice. I guess either blue and yellow or red and blue. Depends on the kiddo. You pick. Thanks for the fun idea.

Thanks for your suggestions, funny thing is that I did buy her some mini baking stuff, only problem is there isnt much out there that is "mini" or for "kids" so I put the few items I had in a mini collander, I just wandered to myself if that was enough? I didnt even think to put a cookbook in there, maybe I will make and laminate her favorite recipes into a book!
My sis is doing the gardening kit (bad thing is my non green thumb to help her LOL)
I love your blog, maybe I should just read it from beg to end, Im sure to get GREAT ideas then :)

What a great idea! My boys would love this, especially when we're waiting at the doctor's office or out to dinner. They really like all colors, but they both like yellow a lot. :)

What a neat idea! I may have to try myself as felt seems a little easier to handle than material.

Would love to win one. Either pink & purple for my girl or green & blue for my boy, whichever you might have on hand.
