More Homemade Chewy Granola Bars

I am absolutely loving these homemade chewy granola bars! They take very little time to prepare, do not contain high-fructose corn syrup, and the recipe can easily be modified for those allergic to peanuts. They are also less expensive than store bought granola bars. This recipe makes about 18-20 good-sized bars.

I wish you could smell my house after we have made these.... it is heaven!

I wrap the bars individually in waxed paper, so we can grab a bar whenever we want a quick snack "on the go". Very convenient, and they store quite nicely.

In place of peanuts, you could substitute cashews, or if nuts are completely out of the question --  try 3/4 cup wheat germ and instead of 3/4 cup sunflower seeds, increase it to a full cup. The recipe is really quite flexible. We've tried dried cranberries or chocolate chips instead of raisins, and it worked beautifully. As long as the ratios and textures are about the same, it will work fine!

We've also made our own homemade granola cereal following the same recipe, but only add 1/8 cup of honey instead of 1/4 cup. Yummm!

Oh yum! I've got a granola bar recipe that I've been using a while, but I like the way you wrapped yours. They're beautiful!

I'm so glad you re-posted this recipe! We were just talking about making our own granola bars last night. I know what we're going to be doing this weekend - thanks! :)

I loved your recipe when you first posted it this recipe and my boys loved eating them, but I have two questions about them. 1) I know this is a silly question but HOW did you wrap them up. it looks in your picture like you have it folded on the end and I can totally see my wrapping job not looking as good. 2) How long do these last...Granted they are so good, they didn't last long in my house, but just want to see what you thought.

Thanks for the post! I have a granola bar recipe that is very similar and was just thinking this morning that I should make some. You have inspired me to get my but in gear and not just think about making them.

@ Goddess -- Good questions! The bars are wrapped using wax paper and I taped them with masking tape, much like you would wrap up a present. I've wrapped them several different ways, and this seems to work the best. I keep the ends nice and long and when I fold them under, just one piece of masking tape across both ends does the trick. Ours go very quickly in our household too, but we did have one that stuck around for 2 weeks and it was still fabulous. Thanks so much for stopping by! :-)

We really need to try this recipe, but I have some shopping to do first! Thanks for the peanut substitution suggestion, too - one of Emma's best friends has a severe peanut allergy and she's over here a lot, so we try to keep treats peanut-free at our house.

Thanks... been wanting to make homemade granola bars. Fo add to your ripe bananna recipes... Have you tried soy frapacinos? They've been great for our so cal hot fall days. You fill half a blender with ice, pour in half a box of soy milk, squirt in some choc. sauce and add one ripe bananna.Blend and serve (i.e., in those restaurant take home cups). Yummy!
