Cheap Thrills

Armed with a roll of pennies, I took Emily to a local outdoor shopping mall to make 50 wishes in the fountain. Among her many wishes, these were my favorites:
"I wish Daddy had a new car."
"I wish... I wish....... I had a fountain.... in my ROOM!!"

"I wish I could be five years old forever!"
"I wish I could go to China." (She seems to have an endless obsession with China.)

And my personal favorite... "I wish for a new toy for Mommy!"

After making all those wishes, we went to Fresh Market where she got a free sugar cookie... Yum! Then headed over to Old Navy to try on sunglasses, and take glamour shots.
Yes, those are cookie crumbs on her face. Total cost of our fun afternoon = $0.50!!

That's a great idea! and what the heck is going on? My four year old keeps telling people "I'm from Chinese" when people ask her where she's from (she's Welsh). Hey ho, as Tommy Cooper once said:

"Apparently, 1 in 5 people in the world are Chinese. There are 5 people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mum or my Dad, or my older Brother Colin, or my younger Brother Ho-Cha-Chu? But I think its Colin."

I'll shall make a wishing penny jar for us to start collecting!

That is a great idea for fun! I'm wondering how you resisted the sun glasses at Old Navy when they looked so cute, I would've spent $.50 + the cost of sunglasses! And I might add I'm impressed that your pennies are rolled up! Maybe we should take one afternoon to roll them up, then one to throw them in the fountain!

Fabulous idea for all those loose pennies we have lying around! I'm equally impressed that you left the Fresh Market without anything more than the free cookie. I'm a big fan of the free coffee, but I always end up with something in my cart as well!

That is such a fun idea. I used to do that with my son when he was little. He always loved it too.

@ Kristin -- Seriously, I was exercising great powers of self-restraint yesterday, and so was Emily! We had so much fun though, and as Emily pointed out, she already has sunglasses at home. I'm amazed we didn't leave with all of them!

@ Angie -- Oooooo... Yes, I usually make it a point to pick up some free coffee there too. It is so good! And they had boxes of chocolate chip cookies that were calling my name.... I think it helped that we had just eaten before going there, otherwise I probably would have gotten all sorts of goodies. Have you ever tried their fresh ground peanut butter? I'm such a sucker for that stuff!

What a fun idea! I haven't yet taught my little one about wishing, she just knows how to blow out birthday candles!
