Kids in the Kitchen -- Poor Man's Turtles

This week, I thought it would be fun to participate in A Little Fun with Me and Lu's Kids in the Kitchen Thursday. Emily and I had such a great time this afternoon making these tasty Poor Man's Turtles. She even decorated some boxes to keep them in, but I don't think they will last long in this house!

To make your own Poor Man's Turtles, you will need: Snap Pretzels, Rolos, and Pecan Halves.
Start by layering the pretzels onto a baking sheet. If you're like Emily, feel free to munch on a few as you are doing this step.

Next, place one Rolo on top of each pretzel. Don't they look great already?? Wait, wait, it gets even better........

Place in a 200 degree oven for just a few minutes, or until the chocolate starts to melt. The Rolos do not melt down, so as soon as the chocolate is melted, go ahead and pull them out. Now, place a pecan half on top of each Rolo and press down. Yummmmm!

Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for the chocolate to harden back up again.

Here's Emily decorating her candy box with lots of "Yum! Yum! Yum!".

Don't they look heavenly? They taste absolutely divine!
Have fun! And for more Kids in the Kitchen, visit A Little Fun with Me and Lu.

These do look good, and it looks like Emily was able to make them on her own, which is even better!

Wow, those look delicious! We have made the pretzels with hershey kisses on them and then you stick an m&m on top, but these look even better. Were there any left for Mark? His comment reminded me of my husband.

Those look SO good! We made them last year with extra large M&Ms in red and green and hershy kisses for the family for christmas... but those look even better than the ones we made. Carmel. May have to get me some. ;)

@ Christy -- Yeah, we were nice and left him a few, but keeping ourselves away from them was a bit like trying to hold back the ocean! They were soooooo good, so we just had to share them.

@ MaryAnne -- Emily pretended to have her own cooking show while she was doing this. It was so cute! The only thing I did was physically put them in the oven and take them out. She did all the rest!

I have looked all over town for those square pretzels. Can you tell me where you got yours?

Valerie @ Inner Child Fun said...

@ Bobbi -- I had no idea they were that hard to find! I found these at Target, so I hope that helps!

Target, really?! I should have asked you months ago when I wanted to use these at Christmas time! I'm going to go stock up.

Thanks for the sweet comments like always. You are one awesome blog friend and one terrific Mama.

Valerie, I made some of these this morning for our National Night Out potluck tomorrow. OMG! They are so good. There might not be any left by tomorrow night.

@ Stephanie -- I know what you mean! I couldn't help myself from buying another bag of Rolos to make another batch of these. They are addicting!
