Snowman in July

Emily's favorite book is Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein, and we have read it together again and again. One of the poems, Snowman, was the inspiration for today's activities. The poem is about a snowman who is determined to try to see July. Emily made her snowman out of white Model Magic, and used twigs for arms, small stones for eyes and buttons, and of course a carrot nose!

The snow curtain was made from hole reinforcers and craft string, a super-frugal version of the one found here.

During a big Winter storm, my dad used to save a giant snowball in the chest freezer, and bring it out during the hottest day of the year. Note to self: Save large snowball in chest freezer next Winter.....

I love model magic. That snowman is adorable, and the curtain is such a neat idea. We love Where the Sidewalk Ends too. I'm making that note to myself too - great idea!

Hi Valerie!

GREAT project!! I'll have to put that on my project calendar for next week! (Next stop -- shopping for modeling clay and reinforcements! LOL!) Thanks for sharing!

@ Lenetta -- I had almost forgotten about the snow curtain, but it's so easy to make and Emily loved it so much! She showed it off to Mark when he came home from work... so proud!

@ sunnymama -- Oh yes, I'm definitely saving a huge snowball in the freezer this winter to bring out on the hottest day of the year next summer. I really wish I had thought of it last winter..... Ah well....
