Eliminate Plastic Bag Clutter with this Easy Craft

We recently borrowed Ed Emberley's Picture Pie (Ed Emberley Drawing Books) from our local public library, and it inspired this quick project for a plastic bag organizer that uses an empty tissue box!

We used a large circle cutter to cut all the pieces quickly and easily. Then Emily chose a design from the book and copied it by gluing down the pieces of construction paper on the side of the box. This activity encourages fine motor skills, since she could only use tiny dots of glue on each piece.

She was so happy with how it turned out! She couldn't even wait for the glue to dry before stuffing it full of plastic bags.

Geometric designs are very appealing to Emily now (see here), so I have a feeling we'll be doing more projects from this book! Plus, now our plastic bags are so organized!

Dear Valerie,

See? Something good can come out of being sick! Don't go too far, though. I don't want to see any crafts involving used tissues! Yuck!

Love,
Mark

I think you might have a quilter on your hands, with the way she likes those geometric shapes! I'm looking forward to playing with Ed Emberley's books when my guy is a little older. His thumbprint one looks really cute.

Why am I not familiar with Ed Emberley? I'm requesting books from the library and I'll add something by him to my list.

This craft is cute.

Used tissues? Gross, Mark!

What a great idea! I never heard of the Ed Emberley books, but they sound really neat!

@Christy

In that case, you will be happy to know that I actually restrained myself. You would not have wanted to see what I _was_ going to post.

That's pretty cool. I bought one of those plastic thingies with the holes in it for plastic bags from Ikea (I think it was a couple of dollars) eons ago, but I think this would have worked just as well.

What a great idea! Plastic bags eat my kitchen and, although I use the cloth grocery bags most of the time, my husband still uses plastic. I never thought to use a tissue box to hold them!

Great way to organize the bags! I have a thin long bag that you use to hold them but it doesn't hold many. Plus it's not handy all the places I need extra bags stashed, like in the basement by the kitty litter. Think we need to craft some of these the next time a Kleenex box is empty.

I think I've gone backwards and caught up now. Sorry it's been awhile since I've been by. My blog has still been posting but we've had the flu and been out of commission:(
