DIY: On-the-Go Snack Cup from a Sheet of Paper

The girls started to get a bit hungry on the way back from visiting with Grandma and Papock. We stopped at a rest stop, and realized we had snacks, but no cups or bowls to serve them in. The solution? Mark's origami skills and a sheet of paper!

You won't believe how quick and easy this is!

Mark has graciously provided us with a quick tutorial. Thanks, Honey! Here's how to make your own On-the-Go Snack Cup.

1. Begin with a square sheet of paper.

2. Fold in half to form a triangle.

3. Pull down one flap as shown. Fold into place.

4. Bring the flap back up again, and use the crease as a marker for your next fold.

5. Fold the bottom right corner up to match the crease you just made.

6. Repeat with the bottom left corner as shown.

7. Fold one top flap down as shown.

8. Flip the cup over, and repeat with the remaining top flap.

9. Fill with tasty snacks!

Now just think of all the "oohs and ahhs" you'll get at the playground when you whip up one of these in a matter of seconds! Or... maybe that's the sort of thing that only happens in my craft fantasies.

Dear All,

I must apologize for the .. crappyness of the cup I made for Clara. I was challenged with both a starving toddler and a rectangular piece of paper. Obviously, Clara did not mind!

Kind Regards,
Mark

p.s. You should have seen the awesome snack box I made for Emily. It holds more than the cup, but takes longer to make.

They are cute! I've been using paper to make those little origami boxes for snacks, and sometimes when it's picnic in the car cos the weather is pants then I make the origami boats to be like bigger dishes. Both those are in my origami post from a while back if you're interested. I'll be giving your snack cups a whirl, because they look very quick to do.

Ha, brilliant! I would make these often when younger, but I never thought to do it when needing a snack cup on the go. Mark is a real modern Macguyver.

I forgot to mention that we usually make ours out of newspaper. Reminds us of our childhoods in Britain, eating fish and chips out of newspaper :)

@ Kitten Muffin -- I love it!! We've made the boats before, but I never thought to use them for serving snacks. Newspaper would work really well, and it's super-frugal too! Great idea!!

Hi Valerie

Cute and functional. A novel way to store snacks and one I would use when at the park as we often come home minus a lid from a container.

Excellent! Super quick and easy, and just what I needed. I've made origami containers before, but I always forget the steps when I'm out and about.

Thanks for this :-)

I used to make these as a kid, but never would have thought to use them as on-the-go snack cups - brilliant!

Very clever.

@ Entertaining Mom -- It is surprisingly un-germy. Newspaper is exposed to very high temperatures, and most germs are killed off in the process. http://www.axelspringer.de/en/artikel/cw_artikel_nv_en_166336.html Crazy, right?

@ growing up creative -- I know what you mean. I WISH I had known how to make these ages ago!

haha...love Mark's comment... I am curious and want to see this snack box that he created :o)

When I was in 1st and 2nd grade, my family was stationed in Japan...so these little cups were a staple haha. My friends and I would actually drink out of them when we went to the water fountain at school...they did get soggy, so weren't "reusable" after a bit.

Blessings & Aloha!

Thank you so much for popping by my blog. It was fun to find your comment :o) Come back any time!

Oh! I also meant to say! What a super cute little model you have there demonstrating how well this little cup works :o)

Blessings & aloha!

As the saying goes, "necessity is the mother of invention (or creativity)". Those cups are really very cool! :o)
