Easy Reverse Resist Paintings

If your kids love to paint, but you would rather not deal with the mess, bleeding art tissue paper is for you. It's very inexpensive and can be found at any art supply store -- plus, a little bit goes a long way! We are never afraid to get messy with art, but at times making a mess is not really the best option (i.e. a few minutes before dinner). Instead of getting out the paints, we had fun experimenting with a new technique this afternoon to make some reverse resist paintings! The girls thought this was so cool!

Cut out a piece of bleeding art tissue paper, and use a white crayon or oil pastel to make your design. (In this case, hearts for upcoming Valentine's Day.)

Flip the tissue paper over (design side down) onto some thick paper.

"Paint" with water over top! Both of the girls love to paint, but Clara was really into it today!

Encourage your child to use the water over the entire piece of tissue paper. Some may need more encouragement than others... ahem.

Peel off the tissue paper.....

....and admire your beautiful designs!!

[Update: This is not to be confused with regular tissue paper. Having trouble finding bleeding art tissue? You can order it online from Blick Art here!]

I have a bunch of that paper and I haven't even used any of it yet. I will definitely do this.

By the way, I hate it when I get here before Mark.

Oh, I love this! We love bleeding tissue paper crafts of all types and I've never thought of this. We'll have to try it ASAP. I'll pass it on at Magical Childhood. You're so crafty. :)

Dear Valerie,

If I used bleeding tissue paper to stop a bloody nose, would the world end?

That's like dividing by zero, right?

Love,
Mark

I love seeing your great ideas and cute projects, but watching the girls grow is such a treat. Clara is going from baby to toddler to big girl right before our eyes. She's so beautiful... so is Emily. Kiss them both for me and have a great weekend.

Each time you show this I really want to get some of this.

I love this! But I have a dumb question. Is the bleeding tissue the same as gift bag tissue. I have a lot of gift bag tissue that I use for some projects with starch but not sure if its the same.

You always have the best ideas for frugal fun for your girls. They're going to be the most creative kids around... and talented too.

Have a great weekend. ;)

where did you find your bleeding art tissue paper? I bought some at Michael's and it said "bleeding art tissue paper".... but it does not bleed. there was no transfer onto the white paper... what went wrong, I wonder? perhaps the quality just wasn't up to par:(

I found the bleeding art tissue paper at Michael's, it's in with the regular tissue paper in the wrapping supplies. But, when I asked a lady she said they only carry regular tissue, so don't rely on them!

I have found that some colours work better than others so far. And we only have regular paper to colour on at the moment, I need to get some heavier paper to do this with.
