Snowflakes at Night

I cut out some paper snowflakes this afternoon, and Emily thought it would be fun to make snowflake rubbings with them!

We used black construction paper, and put the paper snowflakes underneath. Then, she used the side of a white crayon to make the rubbing. She thought they looked like snowflakes at night!

Clara gave it a try too! I used masking tape to keep the paper from sliding around on her high chair tray. I think the girls liked seeing when their snowflakes started to appear on the page... it's like magic!

Clara wanted to do more of these, so we offered her white paper and a blue crayon the next time. She was having so much fun!

I love watching them do crafts together!

A good tutorial on paper snowflakes can be found here. Have fun!

Dear Valerie,

I like how Emily has the small crayon and Clara has the big one.

What a fun idea! We did leaf rubbings in the fall and my daughter loved it, so I'm sure this would really go over well! :-)

Ooh, I so need to try rubbings again - we did some with leaves, but it was a while now...

Emily and Clara always look like they get along and enjoy each other so much! It's cute that they can craft together too. The title of your post reminds me of the book Snowmen at Night - a favorite in our house!

Very cute idea. Your girls are very lucky to have a mom who does so much with them.

That looks fun. We haven't had much luck with rubbings here, but I need to try them again sometime.
That last picture of the two of them is wonderful.

Those look neat. It's been forever since we've done any rubbings.

Have you ever done the sun-bleached shadow drawings? I bet they would look neat with snowflakes.

@ Nadia -- I'm not sure which she likes more -- doing the art, or having her picture taken! Either way, she's having a lot of fun, and that's fine with me!

@ Mark -- Somehow Clara negotiated her way to the larger crayon. I'm not sure exactly how that happened, but Emily seemed quite content with the smaller one anyway.

@ Montessori Moments -- Thank you so much! You just made my day! :-)

@ Christy -- They don't always get along, but they do enjoy each other's company for the most part. I think Clara is particularly happy when she can participate in anything her older sister is doing!

@ Dara -- I haven't done sun-bleached pictures with the girls yet, but have been meaning to for awhile now. That is a great idea!!
