Birds on a Wire

These colorful birds are so happy and cheerful! The best part -- they were made using leftover color coding labels from the dollar store. Very inexpensive, since we had an entire pack of 225 of them for $1!

First, we cut a piece of blue construction paper in half to form two long rectangles. Then, Emily drew some "wires" with a black crayon.

Next, she started to cut up the labels. Half of a circle makes a body for each bird.

Place the bird bodies along the wire, or flying up in the air, as desired.

A sixth of each circle sticker makes a tail or wing for each bird, and one eighth forms the beak. Emily had no trouble cutting the stickers in half, and I helped cut the smaller pieces for her ahead of time. I love how she wanted to use different colors to make up each bird!

With a fine-tipped black marker, draw in the feet.

Welcome in the birds with your colorful and fun artwork!

We just love Spring, don't you?

It reminded me of this birds on the wires song I saw a while back - add a few more wires to your page and you could do the same thing!

You mean you can do something with them besides randomly stick them all over yourself? That's what my kids come up with!
Very cute.

Valerie @ Inner Child Fun said...

@ Ticia -- I plan to do that with the other 215 labels! Hee hee!

Dear Valerie,

Save a few of those to make Popsicle stick traffic lights.

Oh wait, I'm not supposed to be constructive here. One moment...

*ahem*

You cut up all of my stickers! Oh no! I had big plans for those, you know. Big plans.

Love,
Mark

Oh, my goodness!! We are making shape birds tomorrow in class. I haven't cut out any of the shapes yet....now I am using this idea instead of my planned scrap paper! These are so darn cute. :) Thanks!

These look like so much fun. :)

In answer to your question on my blog... I've never actually made soy candles. we'll have to trade tips. :) My husband bought the beeswax at a local all natural grocery market. It ended up cheaper then buying it though the internet or at a box store.

@ Ms. Jessi -- That's perfect! I must have picked up on your shape bird vibes. :-)

Valerie @ Inner Child Fun said...

@ Brynn -- I would have never thought to look for it there, thanks!!

Now this is the craft after my own heart - it doesn't involve any gluing or extensive prep :) We might try this - very cute.

Valerie you come up with the cutest ideas. This reminds me of that Sesame Street song with the birds flying in and giving color to everything.
Oh, and I love that Emily signs her name in the scrap booky way. Too cute.

These are too cute! (And SUPER frugal!) Jenny loves to "cut" and this looks like a great fine-motor-skills craft for her!

Tweet Tweet! I am happy to know Spring is coming and I'm not going to complain about the happy (and loud!) birds that were outside of my window this morning. Since Emily ordered them, I will accept the gift.
