Photo Puppets

These photo puppets were so much fun to make, and I think the girls will enjoy making scenery to act out plays with them. What little girl doesn't like to imagine herself as a flying fairy? For boys, try this same technique, but turn them into superheroes instead. Not that there's anything wrong with boys who want to be fairies or anything... I'm just sayin'.

This is mostly a Mommy/Daddy craft, but you didn't think we let the girls have ALL the fun, did you? Heavens, no! Mark took some photos of the girls playing with magic wands and I cut them out.

I used the leaf-shaped paint chips from Home Depot as a pattern for the wings, which were cut out from an old wallpaper sample book (free at most paint supply stores).

Glue on a popsicle stick, and it's time to play!!

Clara's magic wand worked so well -- it made one of her shoes disappear!

Have fun!!

So cute and what a great idea. My preschoolers would love playing with puppets that looked like themselves!!

Are you serious!?! Those are just plain too cute for words.

Now they need some pixie dust to spread around...

Too sweet!

Dear Valerie,

It also made Clara's left shoe appear on her right foot. Amazing!

Love,
Mark

That is too sweet for words. What child wouldn't want to see themselves as a fairy or superhero? Mind you my daughter spends half her day with wings on.

Did you reinforce the photos at all?

Way too cute, and kind of like your homemade tea bags, which I loved as well.

Hi Valerie

You are a girl after my own heart! I just love these. Saw something similar years and years ago in a Parents magazine, but have never ever got to making some! I love "fun with photos" and am hoping to do a regular post about just this kind of craft! I'll be sure to link back up to you!

I must tell you that I am a great fan. You are on my blog roll and I really think your crafts are AMAZING. You have such wonderful ideas.

I hope you will pop by and visit sometime!

Kindest regards,
Georgia

@ Wonder Mom -- Oooo.. I love the pixie dust idea! :-)

@ Anna -- I can't decide which she enjoys more - wearing the wings around the house, or playing with the fairy photo puppet!

Valerie @ Inner Child Fun said...

@ Matthew -- I bet they will turn out great!! I wanted to do a superhero puppet with Mark's photo, but it was getting a bit late. I made note of it for a future project. You didn't think I would let him off the hook _that_ easily, did you? ;-)

Valerie @ Inner Child Fun said...

@ Ticia -- I printed out the photos on photo paper, so I didn't reinforce them, though it would be pretty easy to use thin cardboard, like from an empty cereal box.

I think you could make an amazing flash video using this technique. I might try it. It strikes me as a technique that would work for a music video
