Father's Day Gifts Kids Can Make -- Dad's Brag Book

Emily: What in the world are those?
Me: These? These are 3 1/2" disks.
Emily: WOOOOOOOW.........What are they for?
Me: Back in the olden days, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and dirt was new, people used them to save files from the computer.
Emily: People were so silly! I'm going to make a book out of these! It's going to be the best book ever!!
Me: Well, far be it from me to stop you!

Emily picked out which photos she wanted, and I helped punch holes in the photos so they lined up with the holes on the disks. Then, she assembled this fun brag book for Mark using a recycled disk for each cover, and fastened all the pages with binder rings.

I think it turned out great, and I'm happy to see these old disks getting reused instead of taking up room in a landfill. Plus, it makes for a fun geeky display on Mark's desk at work!

Another great idea! We must have some of those banging around the back of drawers somewhere. Probably with my unfinished, "great American" novel on them :)

I love it. I know we don't have any of those disks hanging around though. I save everything, but my husband throws everything away. I have to hide things when he goes on one of his toss everything raids. Anyway, I am certain that all of the disks we had were tossed long ago.

@ Christy -- I know I shouldn't have been surprised that Mark still had a bunch of these squirreled away, but I was anyway! They are fun to craft with, though! :-)

Great idea, Emily!! I'm going to hunt up a couple of those in our house to make one from my son for Father's Day. Thanks for the idea!

Mike would love this! Unfortunately, I don't think we have any of those anymore...

I used to take these apart when I was Emily's age and pretend the inside was a record. Of course, if you did that, Emily would just ask what a record is =)

Actually, those are 3 1/2 inch disks, not to be confused with the larger 5 1/4 inch floppies. Man, I am dating myself...

@ Brian -- Oh my goodness, how did I mess that up??? You're absolutely right! I'll update the post -- thank you!!

@ MaryAnne -- Hahaha! It's true, most kids have no idea what a record is... Man oh man!

So, did you ban Mark from the site for this post, so you could put it up? :)
Hmmmm, do I have enough of those to be able to do this......... I think I know where one is.

What a fabulous idea! That is so superb - I love it.

Oh... does she want to make others and need more disks? 'Cause I'm sure I have some that shouldn't go in landfills - not unless I already gave them to the Goodwill. Doubt it, I've been finding so much stuff to get rid of but it just keeps multiplying. :D

Dear Valerie,

If I am lucky, will I get a brag poster book made out of bernoulli disks?

Love,
Mark

What a brilliant idea, but what are binder rings? I've never heard of them over here in the uk?
